The 2012  July Vocational Coaching Seminar will be held in the second week of the July School Holiday break. The cost of the course is $225.00 for the full 4 days. The program will be similar to those we have previously run and will focus on preparation for the First examination session in August 2012.

The four day intensive seminar includes a dance Pilates warm-up, with Classical Syllabus and Virtuosity Classes. The virtuosity work will concentrate on selected sections including Pirouettes, Allegro, Pointe, Free Enchainements, Variations and Dances.

 A good knowledge of the syllabus at the appropriate level is required and priority will be given to those students intending to take their examinations in 2012.

The daily program for each level is as follows;

  • ½ hour Dance Pilates warm up
  • 1 ½ hours – Classical syllabus class
  • 1 hour Virtuosity class

Limited private coaching will be available to students who would like additional individual Classical Coaching or Dance Pilates strengthening sessions.

The cost is $35.00 per 1/2hour session. Private lessons must be paid for at the time of registration to secure a place. Priority is given to Advanced students.

 We reserve the right to make adjustments to the program/timetable if necessary.

 Incentive Awards will be given. To be eligible, students must attend classes over the four days.

 

Tutors

Seminar Director and Principal Tutor: Carole Speirs, Auckland, NZ

Carole Speirs is a Dance Educator/Freelance Classical Tutor. She is a Vocational and Grades Examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD). New Zealand born and trained, Carole has a wide range of teaching experience. In the private sector Carole has taught young children through to tertiary level students in both open classical technique and syllabus classes. Very interested in the professional development of teachers of classical dance, she has been involved in construction of new courses designed to assist teachers in furthering their knowledge and skill. In 2008, Carole was appointed by the RAD as Moderator for the RAD components of the Bachelor of Dance degree at The AUT University. She is an RAD tutor for the new syllabi currently being introduced by the RAD. 

 

Guest Tutor: Sue Nicholls - Wellington

Sue is from Wellington, where she is classical tutor and Head of the Regional Associate Programme at the New Zealand School of Dance. She teaches throughout New Zealand and internationally and is a Vocational Examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance. Sue is also a tutor for the Certificate of Ballet Teaching Studies, in partnership with Auckland University of Technology. She is a Distinguished Graduate of the New Zealand School of Dance, a former dancer with the Royal New Zealand Ballet and London Festival Ballet (now English National Ballet). Qualifications include the Royal Academy of Dance Professional Dancer’s teaching Diploma (Distinction) and a 1st class Bachelor of Philosophy (Hons) in Ballet and Contextual Studies validated by Durham University.


Guest Tutor: Benita Whalley - Brisbane

Born in Townsville North Queensland, Benita commenced dancing at 4 years of age, firstly with Marilyn Strafford, then Joyce Munroe and finished her training with Ann Roberts.  At 13 Benita joined the North Queensland Ballet and Dance Society and had the opportunity to work with a lot of Australian dancers and choreographers. At 17 Benita joined the Perth City Ballet Company and then the West Australian Ballet Company where she remained for 5yrs working her way up to Principal Roles.

 Benita’s also performed in “The Flintstones” touring around Asia before returning to Queensland to join the Queensland Ballet Company.  She was very quickly promoted to a Featured Artist dancing many principal roles and working with some of Australia’s great choreographers. After a spinal injury Benita stopped dancing and took up teaching.  Benita has been teaching for the Queensland Dance School of Excellence for the past 28 years as well as freelance teaching around Australia and New Zealand.  Benita also enjoyed the role of Assistant Rehearsal Director at the Queensland Ballet Company and performed character roles in many ballets while the company was under the directorship of Artistic Director Harold Collins.

 Benita has been a Vocational Graded Examiner with the Royal Academy of Dance for the past 9 years and travels to exam dance students worldwide.

 

Pilates - DancePilates.com

DancePilates.com runs customised Pilates sessions, movement education workshops and specific dance programmes, for dancers to; prevent injury, improve technique, increase understanding of movement principles and prepare the dancer for the demands of their dance form.

Refund Policy

Students who withdraw from the course prior to the closing date of 8th June  will be entitled to a full refund of the course fees. Students who withdraw from the course after the closing date of 8th June will be entitled to a 50% refund of course fees. There is no refund of course fees for students who withdraw from the course once it has commenced.  

Venue

Our new premises for Auckland Academy of Dance Studios are located at Unit L 44A Portage Rd, New Lynn.  Access is not via Portage Road but from Mc Whirter Place. Turn at the orange VTNZ warrant of fitness building and enter the Portage Rd Business Park on the left. We are at the back of the site next to Kohu Road Ice Cream. If you have not been to us before please leave extra time to get to your first class just in case you have any trouble finding us.
