In January 2012 we are holding our second Summer School. The programme will be run Monday 23rd -Friday 27th January 2012. The five day AAD Summer School 2012 is available for students from RAD Intermediate Foundation or equivalent and above.
Four levels will be offered. The program will operate from approximately 9.00am - 4.00pm. We will also be offering additional seminar workshop classes for dancers nutrition, and a Q & A session with our tutors to discuss their experiences as a professional dancer. The days and times for these will be made available with your timetable in December.

The cost of the AAD Summer School 2012 is $395 for the week. A few places are still available.
Please remember to bring a pilates/yoga matt, your drink bottle and lunch.

Refund Policy:
A non-refundable deposit of $75 is required at the time of registration. Students who withdraw from the AAD Summer School 2012 prior to the closing date of 5th December will be refunded in full. Students who withdraw after the closing date, but before the first day of Summer school will be refunded their registration fee less the $75 non-refundable deposit. There are no refunds for students who withdraw after summer school 2012 has commenced.
We reserve the right to make adjustments to the program/timetable and to amalgamate class levels if necessary.
Summer School Director
Carole Speirs, ARAD Adv T Dip, Summer School Programme Director, Auckland Academy of Dance
Carole Speirs is a Dance Educator/Freelance Classical Tutor and current Director of Ballet at Auckland Academy of Dance. She is a Vocational and Grades Examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance. She has taught young children through to tertiary level students in both open classical technique and syllabus classes.
Summer School Tutors will include:
Veronica Mahon, former dancer The Australian Ballet Company & Sydney Dance Company
Born in Newcastle, Veronica studied ballet with her mother, Marie Walton-Mahon. In 1996, she won the Gold Medal at the Genee Awards and then joined the Australian Ballet School. She graduated as Dux of her year and joined the Australian Ballet Company in 2000. During her first year with company she was fortunate enough to perform ‘Swanhilda’ in Coppellia. While with the company she also performed in Divergence, Beyond Bach, Graeme Murphy’s Nutcracker, Swan Lake and many more. Veronica left the company in 2004, to travel overseas and performed with Ballet Ireland, Dublin and The Atlantic Southeast Ballet Company in South Carolina, USA. In 2007 she joined Sydney Dance Company and worked with such inspirational choreographers as Merryl Tankard and Aszure Barton. Veronica currently teaches and choreographs at the Marie Walton-Mahon Dance Academy and National College of Dance. Veronica joined Mod in 2011 for the production of Suite Synergy.
Jane Turner, NZ School of Dance, Royal NZ Ballet Company
Originally trained in Auckland, Jane is a graduate of the New Zealand School of Dance. She was a member of the New Zealand Ballet Company for more than 10 years and enjoyed a highly successful solo career. Jane is often sought after for private classical & repertoire tuition. She currently also works for Dance Pilates.com and specialises in pilates for dancers.
Sarah Knox, Footnote Dance, Wellington
Sarah Knox graduated from the New Zealand School of Dance in 2001 with a diploma in Dance Performance, also winning awards for Best All Round Student and Promise in Choreography. She worked with Douglas Wright and Black Grace and in 2005 & 2006 travelled to Japan to perform as a dancer, vocalist and magician's assistant in a Resort Hotel. While there, she learned Nihon Buyo - traditional Japanese Dance. Sarah joined Footnote in 2006 and choreographed Kakushi Aji on the company for the 2008 Made in New Zealand season. In 2009, Sarah and Anita produced and performed their own show Into the Looking Glass which was part of the New Zealand Fringe Festival. Sarah has been a guest tutor at the New Zealand School of Dance and in 2011 was assistant choreographer for the Rugby World Cup Opening Ceremony.
Body Conditioning
Angela Gendall, Dance Pilates.com, Auckland
Angela was a former dancer with the Royal Ballet Company in London. She now operates her own Pilates studio, Westmere Pilates, and is the founder of dancepilates.com. These two enterprises provide Pilates, Physiotherapy, Rehabilitation and Movement Education workshops to your dancers across the Auckland region.
