The July 2010 Vocational Coaching Seminar's will be held 13-16th July, during the second week of the respective school holiday break.The program will be similar to those we have previously run and will focus on preparation for the August / September 2010 examination sessions.
The four day intensive seminar includes a dance Pilates warm-up, with Classical Syllabus and Virtuosity Classes. The virtuosity work will concentrate on selected sections including Pirouettes, Allegro, Pointe, Free Enchainements and Dances.
This year we are also offering additional 1-hr Introductory Pointe Stengthening Workshops as well. The cost is $25.00 per 1-hour workshop and should be booked on your registration form.

Registrations for the July Seminar close 4.00pm Friday 4th June 2010.
The daily program for each level is as follows;
½hour Dance Pilates Warm Up 1 ½ hours – Classical Syllabus Class 1 hour Virtuosity Class
Limited private coaching will be available to students from Intermediate level and above who would like additional Classical coaching. Spaces are limited and priority will be given to Advanced students. The cost is $30.00 per 1/2 hour session.
Registration forms and payments must be received by the closing date as student numbers are strictly limited. The cost of the four-day seminar is $195.00 including GST.
We reserve the right to make slight adjustments to the program if necessary.
Principal Tutor: Carole Speirs ARAD Adv T Dip, Director of Ballet, Auckland Academy of Dance
Carole Speirs is a Dance Educator/Freelance Classical Tutor. She is a Vocational and Grades Examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance. New Zealand born and trained, Carole has gained a wide range of teaching experience. In the private sector Carole has taught young children through to tertiary level students in both open classical technique and syllabus classes. She is contracted to the Royal Academy of Dance internationally and has secured extensive experience as an examiner/assessor of student progress and ability. She particularly interested in the professional development of teachers of classical dance and is often involved in construction of new courses designed to assist teachers in furthering their knowledge and skill. Carole was recently appointed by the Royal Academy of Dance to be a moderator for the RAD components of the Bachelor of Dance degree at The Auckland University of Technology.
GuestTutor: Sue Nicholls ARAD BPhil (Hons) - Wellington
Born in Wellington, Sue trained at the National School of Ballet, graduating in 1974, and then becoming a member of the New Zealand Ballet Company. She then joined the London Festival Ballet, now known as the English National Ballet. After returning home, Sue became a ballet tutor at the New Zealand School of Dance from 1987-1998 and in 1999 she returned to London to further her professional development through study. Sue now teaches regularily at the Paula Hunt Studios in Wellington and freelances both nationally and internationally. Sue became a Vocational Graded Examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance and teaches on the RAD BA (Hons) Dance in Education and Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies programs in partnership with the Auckland University of Technology. Sue holds a Bachelor of Philosophy in Ballet and contextural Studies from Durham University and a RAD Professional Dancer's Teaching Diploma.
Guest Tutor: Hilary Kaplan, ARAD MA, Alegeria Dance Studios, Sydney, Australia
Hilary Kaplan was born in South Afrtica. A child prodigy in various styles of dancing, she trained with the late Reina Berman (ballet) and with Mercedes Molina (Spanish Dancing) and completed her training at the Royal ballet School in London. She then returned to South Africa where she danced with PACT and CAPAB. She married and settled down to open her on highly successful ballet school.
Hilary was subsequently appointed a Dual Examiner and Tutor for the Royal Academy of Dance - and a Dual Examiner for the Spanish Dance Society. She is a sought-after examiner and teacher all over the world, appearing regularly on the faculty of international summer schools and seminars. In 1996 she moved to Australia with her husband and 5 daughters and in 1998 she and Archibald McKenzie, founded Alergria Dance Studios in Sydney. Hilary is also a qualified as a Cecchetti Associate.
Introductory Pointe Strengthening Workshops
DancePilates.com Angela Gendall & Susie Tate
This July we are offering additional pointe strengthening workshops to assist dancers. These 1-hour introductory workshops will cover basic lower leg anatomy, provide education on the importance of conditioning for pointe work and will outline the structure and content of the DancePilates.com 2011 pointe strengthening programme titled 'finer Point'. Dancers will be taught a selection of exercises from the programme. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend these sessions.
Angela Gendall
Angela Gendall was a former dancer with the Royal Ballet Company in London. She now operates her own Pilates studio, Westmere Pilates, and is the founder of dancepilates.com. These two enterprises provide Pilates, Physiotherapy, Rehabilitation and Movement Education workshops to your dancers across the Auckland region. Angela is a former University Lecturer and has over 20yrs experience with Pilates technique. She has a strong interest in Sports Psychology and its application within Dance. Angela is also a qualified rehabilitation practitioner.
Susie Tate
Susie originally trained as a dancer and dance teacher at the Royal Academy of Dance in London, UK, and it was here after sustaining an injury that she was introduced to Pilates under the instruction of Alan Herdman.
Pilates became a key component to Susie's recovery and an integral part of her training, and afterwards supported her career as a dancer and dance teacher and whilst studying for her Masters in Choreography at Middlesex University.
Susie’s particular interest in teaching led her to work with the education units of a number of leading UK dance companies and organisations, including English National Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet, the Royal Ballet School, London Contemporary and the leading dance company for disabled and non disabled dancers, Candoco. Whilst working with Candoco and seeing the immense benefits of Pilates to such a range of dancers, Susie trained a Pilates instructor and gained her qualification with Body Control Pilates. Susie went on to teach Pilates in the community and to the dancers at Candoco.
On arriving in New Zealand in 2009, Susie began work with the integrated dance company, Touch Compass, teaching Pilates to the company and developing their education projects. Susie is particularly interested in Pilates for young dancers.
