The Auckland Academy of Dance provides high calibre training with professional teaching staff in classical ballet, jazz and more recently contemporary and hip hop dance.
Classes are taught for preschool children aged 3 & 4 yrs and school aged children from 5-18yrs.
Some of our dancers have gone on to enjoy successful careers in dance, as performers, teachers and choreographers. Some now bring their own children here to experience the enjoyment of dance themselves. The Auckland Academy of Dance is a place where many friendships begin and last a life-time, but most importantly a life long love of dance is developed and nurtured.
We are located at Unit 1, 44A Portage Road in New Lynn, Auckland. Access to our studios is within the Portage Road Business Park,via Mc Whirter Place, just off Portage Road in New Lynn. See our contacts page for a map.
We have four large purpose built studios three with wooden floors and the fourth with a specialized dance floor. All studios are fully equipped with mirrors and barres. Our Studios also have bathrooms, reception, office and our own small dance supplies shop on site.

Classical Ballet and Contemporary Dance
Mrs Carole Speirs, the Director of Ballet, oversees all teaching, examination preparation and coaching for performances in Classical Ballet and Contemporary dance. We offer classical ballet training following the Royal Academy of Dance Grades and Vocational Syllabi from the Pre Primary classes aged 5 years to Advanced 2 and Solo Seal.
The classical ballet training focuses on correct technique and encourages musicality and artistic accomplishment.
Pre-school classes provide a foundation in dance. Children are introduced to the basic movements of jumping, skipping, running and hopping. They learn about rhythm and music with an emphasis on dancing for fun.
Contemporary dance classes are offered to students from Grade 5 Ballet upwards. We follow the New Zealand Association of Modern Dance (NZAMD) Syllabus and offer classes from introductory to Level 6.
